Lil Wayne Announces "Tha Carter VI" Album Release for June 6th

Lil Wayne has officially unveiled plans for the forthcoming installment of his iconic "Tha Carter" series. "Tha Carter VI" is set to drop on June 6th, marking the sixth album in the acclaimed franchise.

The rapper teased the album during a Super Bowl ad for Cetaphil, sparking speculation about its imminent arrival. His label, Republic Records, and Young Money have since confirmed that the album is on track for release in a few months.

Wayne's cameo in the Super Bowl commercial hinted at his disappointment over not performing at this year's Halftime Show, which will feature Kendrick Lamar instead. Social media users quickly noted that Wayne should have been given the opportunity to perform in his hometown of New Orleans, a sentiment he humorously acknowledged in the ad.

"Tha Carter V," the previous installment in the series, was released seven years ago and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. It spawned hits such as "Uproar" and "Don't Cry." Wayne hinted at a sixth album with the release of "Tha Fix Before Tha VI" in September 2023, a mixtape featuring collaborations with Jon Batiste and Fousheé.

"Funeral," Wayne's last solo album, was released in January 2020. He collaborated with 2 Chainz on the album "Welcome 2 Collegrove" in November 2023 and has appeared on various singles by Tyler, The Creator, Tyga, and Nicki Minaj in recent years.
