Britt Lower's Helly R. Reclaims Her Body and Explores Innie-Outie Dichotomy in 'Severance' Episode 6

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains spoilers for Season 2, Episode 6 of "Severance," streaming now on Apple TV+.

After being possessed by her outie, Helena, Helly R. finally returns to the severed floor in Episode 6, titled "Attila." However, she encounters resistance from her fellow macrodata refiners.

The episode culminates in Mark confessing his intimate encounter with Helena (believing her to be Helly) during the ORTBO in Episode 4. Distraught, Helly declares, "What sucks is that she got to have that and I didn't. That she used me to trick my friends."

Undeterred, Helly devises her own solution. She leads Mark to an office filled with desks covered in plastic wrap, creating a cozy and intimate setting. Together, they craft their own memory.

In an interview with Variety, Britt Lower discusses the pivotal episode's themes:

On the relief of discussing spoilers:
"It's cool because we couldn't have anticipated how the timing of the episodes would affect people. It gives the audience time to expand the world in their minds and create their theories."

On the jealousy between Helly and Helena:
"I think Helena is definitely jealous of Helly R. She has access to a way of moving through the world that is so alive and awake. Whereas Helena has to hold herself with so much composure and wear all these masks."

On Helly's decision to take off her shoes:
"After Helly finds out about the ORTBO incident, she needs to get her feet on the ground. She needs to feel a sense of grounding."

On Helly's intimate encounter with Mark:
"It's a reclamation. It's a brave act to be vulnerable enough to say, 'I want this' to Mark. Helly goes from being uninterested in being a family with Mark to protecting her chosen family."

On the evolving relationships between the innies:
"Season 2 is a journey for the innies as they explore their relationships and their own identities. They're questioning who they are in relation to the people they love."
