The Real Sister: Vietnamese Family Drama Goes Global

The Vietnamese box office hit "The Real Sister" is making waves internationally, expanding to screens across North America, Australia, and New Zealand.

After dominating Vietnam's box office for five consecutive weeks, the film will roll out in North America on February 21 through Eastern Edge Films Inc. (EEF), followed by releases in Australia and New Zealand on February 27 via Infinity Entertainment.

Directed by Khuong Ngoc and produced by Pham Tran Bao Quyen, "The Real Sister" features a star-studded cast of Vietnamese actresses including Viet Huong, Hong Dao, Ngoc Trinh, Le Khanh, and Dinh Y Nhung.

The tear-jerking drama follows a terminally ill sister-in-law whose reunion with her four younger sisters exposes long-buried family tensions. Despite being a low-budget production, "The Real Sister" has resonated with Vietnamese audiences, grossing over $4.4 million and ranking among the country's top five highest-grossing domestic films of 2024.

New Jersey-based EEF, led by Jawahar Sharma, specializes in distributing Asian and Arabic-language films across North America. For the release of "The Real Sister," EEF has partnered with PR specialist Dr. Jacqueline Thu Thao and marketing expert Bryan Khoi Nguyen to drive the film's North American campaign.

Skyline Media handles worldwide sales for the film and will present it to buyers at the European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin this month and FilMart in Hong Kong in March. "The Real Sister" is part of Skyline's 2025 slate of Vietnamese and Southeast Asian films, including horror-comedy "The Ancestral Home," Thai-Vietnamese thriller "The Bride," and Cambodian horror "Beheading."
