Grace O'Malley Biopic to Hit Big Screen

Oscar-nominated screenwriter Kirsten Sheridan will direct a film about Irish national hero Grace O'Malley.

Sheridan, daughter of Jim Sheridan, has optioned the biography "Grace O'Malley—The Biography of Ireland's Pirate Queen" by Anne Chambers. Wild Atlantic Pictures and Reclaim Entertainment Ventures will produce.

The film will depict the true story of O'Malley's encounter with Queen Elizabeth I during the 16th century. The two leaders challenge each other, question their identities, and forge a connection despite their conflicting roles.

Sheridan's vision for the film is raw and contemporary, exploring themes of sexuality, identity, and gender. The project will showcase O'Malley's exploits and her journey as a leader, mother, and survivor.

Sheridan is represented by Rosalie Swedlin, Bec Smith, Anna Flickinger, James Kearney, and Joe Dapello.
