The Odyssey Documentary Explores the Global Influence of Yoruba and Afrobeats Music

Nigerian superstar Adekunle Gold has co-produced "The Odyssey," an upcoming documentary that chronicles the evolution and global impact of Yoruba and Afrobeats music over the past century.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Abba T. Makama, the documentary features interviews with renowned musicians, producers, historians, and academics to delve into the origins of Yoruba music, its transformation into Afrobeats, and its influence on contemporary music culture worldwide.

"The Odyssey" highlights the contributions of pivotal figures, including Seun Kuti, the son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, Juju music icon Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey, and music historian Benson Idonije, grandfather of Burna Boy. Their insights illuminate the cultural significance and enduring legacy of Yoruba music.

Executive producer Bobo Omotayo, known for his platform "Fuji: An Opera," emphasizes the film's commitment to preserving and reimagining Yoruba music for modern audiences. Adekunle Gold, with his genre-bending style, bridges the past and future of Yoruba music as a co-producer.
