John Cooper Appointed as True West Film Center's Artistic Director

Iconic film industry figure John Cooper has assumed the role of Artistic Director at the True West Film Center. In this pivotal position, Cooper will spearhead the Center's artistic vision across its initiatives.

As Artistic Director, Cooper will oversee programming, including the True West Film Festival, educational offerings, and film screenings. His expertise will be invaluable as the Center prepares to unveil its new campus in Healdsburg, California.

"Cooper's visionary leadership, curatorial acumen, and dedication to independent filmmakers make him an ideal addition to our team," said Kathryn Philip, True West's Executive Director. "His vast experience will guide our cinematic endeavors."

Cooper brings over three decades of experience from the Sundance Institute. As Festival Director from 2010 to 2020, he introduced the Art House Convergence and expanded the festival's international footprint. Prior to Sundance, he directed Outfest, a prestigious LGBTQ+ film festival.

"It is an honor to join True West at this transformative juncture," Cooper stated. "As an advocate for arthouse cinemas, I believe that film can foster community. I am eager to cultivate a thriving film culture in Northern California."
