South Korea's box office underwent a significant shift this weekend with the release of "Captain America: Brave New World," which secured a commanding lead upon its debut. The highly anticipated Marvel film captured a massive 62.2% of the market share, dethroning the previously reigning "Hitman 2."

Opening with an impressive KRW5.91 billion ($4 million), "Captain America: Brave New World" accounted for the majority of weekend ticket sales. It drew a staggering 583,851 viewers, amassing a cumulative total of $5.5 million, as reported by Kobis, the tracking service of the Korean Film Council.

Holdovers and Newcomers

The musical romance "Secret: Untold Melody" maintained its second-place position, earning $543,509 and taking 8.3% of the market share. "Hitman 2" dropped to third place, grossing $461,619 and capturing 7% of the weekend.

Anime "Detective Conan: The 14th Target" ascended to fourth place with $244,131, while "The Substance" held steady in fifth place, accumulating $145,733.

Newcomer "Elli and Her Monster Team" debuted in seventh place with $95,549, followed by award-season favorite "The Brutalist" in eighth place with $109,843. "The Fall" and "500 Days of Summer" rounded out the top 10, earning $90,621 and $54,975, respectively.
