Cynthia Erivo Responds to Rumors of "Wicked" Performance at Oscars

Cynthia Erivo has addressed speculation that she and Ariana Grande will perform a medley of "Wicked" songs at the Oscars.

Despite reports suggesting the Academy was planning to open the telecast with the performance, Erivo denies any such plans. "People are asking me if we're going to be singing at the Oscars. I don't know why we would be doing that, since our song is not nominated. That doesn't happen. I don't know what to tell you," Erivo stated.

Erivo further clarified, "Why does everyone keep saying that? I don't know where this has come from. This feels like wishful thinking to me, personally. Why on Earth would we be singing?"

The Academy has confirmed that none of the original song nominees will perform at this year's ceremony, opting instead for "personal reflections" from the songwriters.

Erivo is nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars for her role in "Wicked" and was also nominated in the same category at the Critics' Choice Awards, where "Wicked" tied with "Conclave" for the most nominations.
