The Weeknd's Continued Philanthropy and Grammy Performance

The Weeknd, renowned for his chart-topping hits, has made significant contributions to various charitable causes, totaling over $10 million in donations over the past five years. From providing COVID-19 relief to supporting humanitarian aid in Gaza and assisting Los Angeles wildfire recovery, the artist has demonstrated his commitment to making a positive impact.

Despite the Grammy Awards overlooking his music in 2020, The Weeknd surprised audiences with his performance at the recent ceremony. Following an introduction acknowledging his past criticisms, he took to the stage and captivated viewers with renditions of his latest songs, "Cry for Me" and "Timeless," featuring Playboi Carti.

Following the 2020 snub, The Weeknd declined to submit his music for the awards. His appearance at the 2023 ceremony was therefore all the more unexpected.

"Hurry Up Tomorrow": New Album and Film

The Weeknd released his highly anticipated album, "Hurry Up Tomorrow," on May 12th, marking the third installment in his "After Hours" trilogy. The album features collaborations with Lana Del Rey, Travis Scott, Future, Florence + the Machine, and others.

Coinciding with the album release, a film of the same name is set to premiere on May 16th. Directed by Trey Edward Schults, the film stars The Weeknd, Jenna Ortega, and Barry Keoghan. It will be released exclusively in theaters.

Wildfire Relief Efforts

The original release date for "Hurry Up Tomorrow" was postponed out of respect for the Los Angeles wildfires. The album track "Take Me Back to LA" will benefit the LA Regional Food Bank, providing assistance to wildfire victims. The Weeknd also canceled his planned album release concert at the Rose Bowl and donated $1 million to LAFD Foundation, GoFundMe's Wildfire Relief Fund, and the LA Regional Food Bank.
