The Velazquez Mystery

Paris-based Pulsar Content joins "The Velazquez Mystery," narrated by Cannes and Venice best actor winner Vincent Lindon. This documentary marks the directorial debut of renowned French producer Stéphane Sorlat.

As the third installment in a doc trilogy, "The Velazquez Mystery" explores the enigmas surrounding the revered painter. It questions why Velázquez, hailed as "the only great painter in history" by Salvador Dalí, remains relatively unknown to the masses.

Drawing inspiration from Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon, and Dalí, the film delves into Velázquez's genius. "He was a double genius, technically and in his ability to challenge conventions, inserting himself into his paintings and creating intricate layers of meaning," Sorlat explains to Variety.

Exploring the metaphorical significance of water as a symbol of fluidity and introspection, the film juxtaposes historical accounts, modern interpretations, and reflections on Velázquez's enduring legacy.

"We are delighted to present this documentary, guided by Vincent Lindon's narration, that takes us on a captivating journey to unravel the secrets of one of the most celebrated artists of the 17th century," says Gilles Sousa, founder of Pulsar Content.

"The Velázquez Mystery" is produced by Mondex & Cie, responsible for the trilogy as well as "Searching for Ingmar Bergman" and Rodrigo Sorogoyen's "The Realm." Bodega Films will distribute the film in France on February 26.

Sorlat, co-founder of BAC Films, has an extensive track record in film production and distribution, having worked with renowned directors such as Theo Angelopoulos, Régis Wargnier, and Cédric Klapisch.
