The Danish Woman

Buzzy Trine Dyrholm series "The Danish Woman" will make its international debut at Series Mania's International Panorama section in March.

Dyrholm, currently in the midst of the Oscar campaign for "The Girl with the Needle," stars as Ditte Jensen, a retired elite Danish Secret Service soldier who seeks a quiet life in Reykjavik. However, her warrior instincts drive her to help her neighbors, whether they like it or not.

Directed by award-winning Benedikt Erlingsson, known for "Woman at War" and "Of Horses and Men," the six-episode show premieres in January 2026. International sales are managed by The Party Film Sales.

"After 'Woman at War,' I wanted to explore the concept of 'end justifying the means' from a different perspective. Ditte Jensen embodies this idea," Erlingsson told Variety.

"She's a walking contradiction: a volatile force disguised as an ordinary woman. She's a warrior and a gardener, but she tends to her community with the methods of a soldier. It's like international politics on a domestic scale."

Despite her diverse career, Dyrholm showcases a wide range of her talents in the series.

"She plays a chameleon, adjusting to each situation while remaining true to herself. It requires a unique performer to pull this off," Erlingsson added.

"The Danish Woman" features an unexpected element: singing and dancing. "Nothing is more human than dance. Trine Dyrholm is an exceptional dancer and singer, embodying the title character's multifaceted nature."

Written by Erlingsson and Olafur Egill Egilsson, the series is produced by Marianne Slot and Carine Leblanc for Slot Machine, in collaboration with Gullslottid and Zik Zak Filmworks in Iceland.

"In Europe, we face financial limitations compared to other productions. We must allocate resources strategically and prioritize artistic excellence," said Marianne Slot.

"Diversity and originality are our strengths, allowing us to captivate audiences. 'The Danish Woman' will take you on a wild ride, and we guarantee surprises. Even if you anticipate the plot, the journey is still worthwhile."

Slot and Erlingsson will collaborate on an upcoming feature film that focuses on male characters.

"My previous films may have focused on women, but it's simply a matter of the story. My next film, 'Normal Men,' explores the male perspective on masculinity."
