China's Box Office Dominance Continues Post-Lunar New Year

"Ne Zha 2" maintained its record-breaking run at China's box office, generating RMB1.98 billion ($275.3 million) over the Feb. 14–16 weekend. Globally, it joined an elite group of films with $100 million in Imax box office.

As China's second highest all-time animated grosser, "Ne Zha 2" is poised to join the top 10 highest grossing films of all time, ahead of "The Lion King."

"Detective Chinatown 1900" placed second with $26 million, reaching $443.8 million, while "Captain America: Brave New World" made its box office debut in third place with $10.6 million.

"Boonie Bears: Future Reborn" added $5.5 million to its $101.9 million total, while Wong Kar-wai's classic "In the Mood for Love" returned with a $4.8 million weekend debut.

Despite a slight decline from the previous week, China's box office gathered $327.9 million, bringing its 2025 cumulative gross to $2.77 billion, a notable 95.7% increase year-over-year.

The Lunar New Year slate also set an Imax record, with earnings of $121 million, doubling the 2023 holiday record. "Ne Zha 2's" continued success is driving China's box office to one of its most prosperous new year starts.
