Matthew Rhys to Lead Apple TV+'s "Widow's Bay"

Matthew Rhys has joined the cast of Apple TV+'s upcoming series "Widow's Bay," Variety reports.

Announced in September 2024, the 10-episode show follows a mysterious and cursed New England island and its fearful inhabitants. Rhys will portray the mayor, a skeptical figure who dismisses the superstitions surrounding the island.

Rhys's involvement in "Widow's Bay" marks his latest venture into streaming television. He recently starred in Netflix's "The Beast in Me" with Claire Danes and is set to appear alongside John Krasinski in Amazon Prime Video's "Silent River." Additionally, he wrapped filming on the BBC and BritBox adaptation of Agatha Christie's "Towards Zero."

Rhys is renowned for his Emmy Award-winning performance as a Soviet spy in FX's "The Americans." He has also appeared in HBO's "Perry Mason," ABC's "Brothers & Sisters," and films such as "The Post," "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood," and "Jungle Book."

"Widow's Bay" was created and will be executive produced by Katie Dippold. Rhys will also serve as an executive producer. Hiro Murai will direct the pilot and executive produce the series alongside Claudia Shin, Carver Karaszewski, and Joanne Toll. Apple Studios is producing the series.
