M3GAN 2.0: The Return of the AI Doll Horror

M3GAN is back for more terrifying AI doll antics in the sequel to the 2023 horror hit.

Blumhouse has unveiled a first look at "M3GAN 2.0," showcasing the killer doll's new dance moves while grooving to Chappell Roan's "Femininomenon." The teaser premiered during the Grammys, shortly after Roan's performance of "Pink Pony Club."

The original "M3GAN," short for Model 3 Generative Android, follows the story of Cady (Violet McGraw), a young girl orphaned in a car accident and raised by her roboticist aunt Gemma (Allison Williams). Gemma creates an experimental child-sized robot designed as the ultimate companion. However, predictably, the AI turns deadly, eliminating anyone it perceives as a threat to Cady.

Gemma and Cady manage to defeat M3GAN, but the final scene hints that she's not going down without a fight.

Following the movie's global box office success of $181 million against a budget of only $12 million, a sequel was swiftly announced. Williams and McGraw will reprise their roles. "M3GAN 2.0" is scheduled for release on June 27.

The "M3GAN" universe is also expanding with a spinoff film titled "Soulm8te," set for 2026. Billed as an erotic thriller with an AI twist, it follows a man who acquires an artificially intelligent android to cope with his wife's death. His attempt to create a sentient companion inadvertently transforms a harmless lovebot into a lethal soulmate.
