Les Hijabeuses Wins Breaking Through The Lens Action Grant

The documentary "Les Hijabeuses" has been awarded the 2025 Action Grant from Breaking Through The Lens (BTTL), a non-profit dedicated to addressing gender inequity in the film industry through funding.

"Les Hijabeuses" follows a group of Muslim women soccer players in Paris as they challenge discrimination and advocate for their place in the game. Co-directed and produced by Erin Sayder and Rita Baghdadi, with Camilla Hall serving as executive producer, the film highlights an inspiring story of resilience and empowerment.

The Action Grant provides crucial funding to filmmakers whose projects are ready for production but require additional support. By supporting marginalized filmmakers, including women, trans, and nonbinary individuals, BTTL aims to create a more diverse and inclusive film landscape.

This year, over 54 countries submitted films for consideration. "Les Hijabeuses" will join four other finalists in the 2025 Cohort, gaining access to mentorship and the opportunity to pitch their projects at the Cannes Film Festival.

"We are thrilled to support 'Les Hijabeuses' and its important message of inclusion and equality," said a spokesperson for BTTL. "This film empowers marginalized voices and showcases the transformative power of filmmaking."

The Action Grant has a proven track record of success. Last year's recipient, "Brides," made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. The BTTL team played a pivotal role in sourcing private finance for the film, ensuring its completion and release.

By providing funding and support to filmmakers like Erin Sayder and Rita Baghdadi, Breaking Through The Lens continues to pave the way for a more equitable and representative film industry.
