Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, and Guy Pearce Join Ridley Scott's 'The Dog Stars'

Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, and Guy Pearce have signed on to star in Ridley Scott's upcoming film, "The Dog Stars."

They join Jacob Elordi, who was cast in January after Paul Mescal dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Production is slated to begin in Italy later this month.

Based on Peter Heller's 2012 novel, "The Dog Stars" is adapted for the big screen by Mark L. Smith ("Twisters"). Set in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a deadly flu virus, the story follows a pilot named Hig (Elordi) who teams up with a hardened gunman (Brolin) to survive a group of scavengers. Qualley portrays Cima, a young doctor and daughter of a rancher (Pearce), who joins them on their perilous journey.

Scott, renowned for his prolificacy at 87, is the Oscar-nominated director behind classics like "Gladiator," "Alien," "Blade Runner," and "Thelma & Louise." "The Dog Stars" reunites him with Brolin, who previously starred in "American Gangster," and Pearce, who appeared in "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant."

Brolin recently featured in "Dune: Part Two" and will appear in the upcoming "Knives Out" threequel, "Wake Up Dead Man," and Edgar Wright's "The Running Man" remake. Qualley rose to prominence in Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" and stars alongside Demi Moore in the Oscar-nominated horror film "The Substance." Pearce is currently nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards for his performance in "The Brutalist."
