Hulu's TV adaptation of Sarah J. Maas's popular fantasy romance book series "A Court of Thorns and Roses" has been canceled.

The project, which was announced in March 2021, was in development at Hulu, which is owned by Disney. Maas and "Outlander" creator Ronald D. Moore were attached as executive producers and writers.

However, the show's development was paused due to the writers and actors strikes in the summer of 2023. In February 2023, it was reported that the series was no longer in development at Hulu and was not being shopped to other platforms.

Sources close to the project say that Maas is planning to take the TV rights to "ACOTAR" (as the book series is known to fans) to another studio or platform once the option with Disney expires.

20th Television and Hulu declined to comment. Representatives for Maas have not yet responded to requests for comment.

"A Court of Thorns and Roses" is the first book in Maas's popular fantasy series, which follows 19-year-old huntress Feyre Archeron after she is taken to the magical land of Prythian by Tamlin, one of the seven High Lords of Prythian. The series has sold over 12 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 37 languages.
