Sigourney Weaver's London Stage Performance Halted by Climate Activists

In a dramatic disruption, Hollywood legend Sigourney Weaver's stage performance of "The Tempest" was abruptly halted at London's Theatre Royal Drury Lane on Monday evening. Two activists from Just Stop Oil stormed the stage, launching a confetti cannon and climbing onto the boards with a banner that read "Over 1.5 degrees is a global shipwreck."

The incident occurred mid-scene, forcing theater staff to whisk Weaver away. A voice announced the show's suspension, prompting a mix of boos and cheers from the audience. The protest lasted under a minute before the activists were escorted offstage.

Just Stop Oil is known for its headline-grabbing demonstrations at cultural landmarks, highlighting the urgent need to address climate change. Their intervention aligns with recent scientific findings indicating that global temperatures exceeded the internationally agreed 1.5°C target in 2024. The group demands the U.K. government phase out fossil fuels by 2030.

Environmental campaigners have previously targeted the National Gallery in similar protests. This latest demonstration amplifies the scientific concerns that surpassing the 1.5-degree threshold could trigger catastrophic environmental consequences.
