Brian Cox Defends Kevin Spacey, Condemns Cancel Culture

In a recent interview with The i Paper, actor Brian Cox has come to the defense of Kevin Spacey, his "old friend," and criticized the practice of cancel culture.

"Kevin did certain things, but he also did a lot of extraordinary work," Cox said. "I find it really petty, and I just don’t like it."

Cox emphasized that Spacey's actions, while misguided, were not abusive. "He was misguided, certainly, in terms of his sexuality, but that's to do with him coming to terms with his own sexuality and how he’s dealt with that," Cox explained.

Cox's comments come in the wake of multiple allegations of sexual misconduct against Spacey, which have led to his exclusion from Hollywood. However, Spacey has denied all allegations and has been found not guilty in several legal cases.

Cox's defense of Spacey has sparked a debate about the role of cancel culture in the entertainment industry. "We’ve got to an age now where people are going, ‘Oh, that’s bad, he’s out, boom, he’s cancelled,’” Cox said. “What do you mean ‘cancelled’? How dare you cancel anybody?”

Cox's stance has been met with mixed reactions. Some have praised him for speaking out against cancel culture, while others have condemned him for defending Spacey.

Despite the backlash, Cox has maintained his position. "My point is, I don’t like cancel culture because it does not allow for rehabilitation," he said. "It does not allow for redemption."
