"I don't have any tolerance for any negative rhetoric towards people of any group," Saldaña stated.
She emphasized her positive experiences with the cast and crew of "Emilia Pérez," highlighting inclusivity and racial, cultural, and gender equity as core values.
Despite the setback, Saldaña expressed gratitude for the continued support and emphasized the film's powerful message and its importance for marginalized communities.
"I'm happy that you're all here and that you're all still showing up for Emilia because the message that this film has is so powerful," she said.
Saldaña concluded with the message of continuing to spread love, respect, and curiosity, reiterating that all involved in the film came together with those values in mind.
Gascón's tweets, which surfaced this week, included controversial views on Muslims, George Floyd, and diversity at the Oscars. She has since apologized for her past comments and deactivated her X account.
Last week, Gascón became the first openly trans actor nominated for an Oscar. She is also the first transgender woman to win the best actress award at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for film acting at the Golden Globes.
