Will Smith Embraces the Matrix in New Music Video

Will Smith and rapper Big Sean have debuted the song "Beautiful Scars" featuring OBanga, accompanied by a captivating music video inspired by the iconic film "The Matrix." Smith also announced the release of his forthcoming solo album, "Based on a True Story," his first full-length album in over two decades, slated for release in March 2025.

"Beautiful Scars," produced by OmArr and LeXoskeleton, delves into the complexities of fame and the transformative power of learning from mistakes. In the music video, Smith assumes the role of Neo, the character famously portrayed by Keanu Reeves in the 1999 sci-fi classic "The Matrix," while Big Sean embodies Morpheus, originally played by Laurence Fishburne.

Weeks before the music video's release, Smith posted a cryptic message on Instagram, reflecting on his decision to decline the role of Neo, which eventually went to Reeves in "The Matrix."

The music video concludes with the enigmatic message "Wake up, Will. The matrix has you."

In 2019, Smith revealed on his YouTube channel that the Wachowskis' initial pitch for "The Matrix" failed to fully engage him. The film's emphasis on innovative filmmaking techniques rather than a compelling narrative left him uninspired.
