Wicked: The Movie Musical

"Wicked," the critically acclaimed movie musical that garnered 10 Academy Award nominations and grossed over $727 million worldwide, is set to premiere on Peacock on March 21. A sing-along version of the film will also be available on the streaming platform, along with exclusive bonus content.

Directed by Jon M. Chu ("Crazy Rich Asians," "In the Heights"), the musical adapts the Broadway hit that chronicles the events preceding "The Wizard of Oz." Cynthia Erivo stars as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, both of whom received Oscar nominations for their performances.

The film explores the unlikely friendship between Elphaba and Glinda, which faces challenges when they encounter the manipulative Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum). Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, and Peter Dinklage round out the cast in this captivating tale of female empowerment, corruption, and the inherent magic of humanity.

"Wicked" features beloved songs from the Broadway musical, including "Popular," "Defying Gravity," "Dancing Through Life," and "The Wizard and I." The movie serves as the first part of a two-part adaptation. The sequel, "Wicked: For Good," is scheduled for release in theaters on November 21.

Variety film critic Peter Debruge praised "Wicked" in his review, stating that it "has found its ideal form, where every frame comes crammed with the kind of detail that could easily have been distracting, had a lesser talent than Cynthia Erivo been asked to carry it."

In addition to acting nominations for Erivo and Grande, "Wicked" received Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Production Design, and Best Costume Design.
