Live-Action "Dungeons & Dragons" TV Series Reborn on Netflix

The highly anticipated live-action "Dungeons & Dragons" TV series has found a new home on Netflix. Variety confirms that the project is now under development at the streaming giant.

Previously, a "D&D" series was in the works at Paramount+ but was ultimately canceled due to strategic changes and the sale of eOne, the co-studio behind it. Hasbro Entertainment remains the producer of the new series.

Titled "The Forgotten Realms," after the iconic "D&D" campaign setting, the series will be helmed by Drew Crevello, who was originally attached as showrunner on the Paramount+ project. Crevello will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the Netflix version.

Renowned producer Shawn Levy will join Crevello as an executive producer alongside Dan Levine through 21 Laps, under their overall TV deal with Netflix.

Crevello brings extensive experience to the project, having previously co-created and served as co-showrunner for the acclaimed Apple limited series "WeCrashed." He also played a pivotal role in the development of blockbuster films such as "X-Men: First Class" and "Deadpool."

"Dungeons & Dragons" has a storied history, originating in 1974 by E. Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson. As one of the most influential games ever, "D&D" empowers players to create characters from diverse fantasy races and embark on intricate role-playing adventures within captivating settings.

Past "Dungeons & Dragons" adaptations include an animated TV series in the 1980s and a string of live-action films since 2000. In 2023, the action-comedy film "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves" achieved significant box office success, grossing over $205 million worldwide.

Crevello is represented by UTA, Anonymous Content, and Ziffren Brittenham. Levy is represented by WME and Ziffren Brittenham.
