Super Bowl 2023 Shatters Viewership Records with Historic Audience

For the second consecutive year, the Super Bowl has surpassed its previous audience record, with a staggering 126 million viewers tuning in to witness the Philadelphia Eagles triumph over the Kansas City Chiefs on February 9th.

This year's telecast experienced a 2% increase from last year's record-breaking broadcast, which Nielsen previously recognized as the largest TV audience ever recorded. Nielsen, Fox, and the NFL jointly measured viewers across Fox, Fox Deportes, Tubi, Telemundo, and NFL digital platforms. Last year's audience of 123.7 million was measured across CBS, Paramount+, Nickelodeon, Univision, CBS Sports, and NFL digital properties.

According to Fox, the game's second quarter garnered the highest viewership, with an average of 135.7 million viewers between 8 and 8:15 p.m. ET.

Streaming Viewership Soars

In addition to the record-breaking linear audience, streaming viewership of the Super Bowl also reached an all-time high. Tubi accounted for 13.6 million of the total viewers, while NFL+ and other NFL platforms contributed close to a million.

Halftime Show and Commercials Captivate

Beyond the thrilling game itself, the halftime show proved to be a major attraction. Kendrick Lamar's headline performance featured the Grammy-winning "Not Like Us," along with special guest appearances by SZA, Samuel L. Jackson, Serena Williams, and Mustard.

The telecast also showcased an array of star-studded commercials that dominated YouTube's most-watched list. Booking.com's Muppets-themed ad, Ram Trucks' Goldilocks-inspired campaign led by Glen Powell, and Google Pixel 9's commercial all garnered significant attention.
