Selena Gomez Addresses Oscar Controversy for "Emilia Pérez"

At the Santa Barbara Film Festival, Selena Gomez spoke candidly about the recent controversy surrounding "Emilia Pérez," her Oscar-nominated film.

Despite being the most nominated film this year, "Emilia Pérez" has faced criticism after tweets resurfaced from lead actress Karla Sofía Gascón expressing controversial views. Netflix has subsequently distanced itself from Gascón.

"Some of the magic has disappeared," said Gomez at the festival, where she received the Virtuosos Award. "But I remain proud of my work and grateful for the opportunity. I have no regrets and would make this film again."

Despite Gascón's alleged tweet calling Gomez a "rich rat," Gomez affirmed her positive memories of the production. "Having someone see my potential beyond the obvious was special," she stated. "The trust of the director, Jacques Audiard, allowed me to showcase my versatility, and I hope this is just the beginning."

Gomez, who received BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations for her performance, expressed her enthusiasm for focusing on acting. "I might never go back to music after this," she said, to the astonishment of fans.
