Scrubs Reboot Update: Showrunner Bill Lawrence Provides Details
On the red carpet of the Writers Guild Awards in New York, acclaimed comedy writer Bill Lawrence shared an update on the highly anticipated "Scrubs" reboot.
Confirming the project's active development stage, Lawrence enthusiastically revealed the involvement of several original writers from the iconic medical comedy. He emphasized the strong camaraderie among the creative team and expressed his satisfaction with assembling a blend of veteran and emerging talents.
"We have a combination of the old and new," Lawrence stated. "We're just starting to build it right now, and I expect it to make an appearance very soon."
When asked about his wife, Christa Miller, who played Jordan Sullivan in the original series, Lawrence expressed his gratitude for her support and confirmed her willingness to reprise her role.
Originally aired on NBC (2001-2008) and later on ABC (2009-2010), "Scrubs" followed the daily lives of interns, doctors, nurses, and the enigmatic Janitor at Sacred Heart Hospital. The ensemble cast included Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes, Ken Jenkins, John C. McGinley, and Neil Flynn.
Lawrence shared his motivations for bringing back the beloved comedy after years of fan demand and reunion teases. "I thought about it a lot, and I think the main impetus is selfish," he said. "We all enjoy spending time together, and it's clear that working on this show was a highlight of everyone's career. So we're like, even if it's just that, why not do it again?"
While addressing questions about "Ted Lasso" Season 4, which is rumored to be in development at Apple TV+, Lawrence deferred to the show's co-creator and star, Jason Sudeikis. "I leave all 'Ted Lasso' questions to our fearless leader," he said. "His answer is undoubtedly far more eloquent than mine."
