Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow to Reprise Roles in 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion' Sequel

The beloved 1997 comedy classic "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion" is making a comeback with Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow returning to headline the sequel.

Tim Federle, known for his work on "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series" and "Better Nate Than Never," will helm the project as director. Robin Schiff, who penned the original film's screenplay, and producer Laurence Mark will reprise their respective roles, alongside new producer Barry Kemp.

"Romy and Michele's High School Reunion" follows two underachieving women in their late twenties who concoct elaborate lies about their careers to impress their former classmates at their high school reunion. Schiff originally created the characters for her 1988 stage play "Ladies' Room," which starred a pre-fame Kudrow. Sorvino joined Kudrow in the 1997 film, which became a moderate box office success.

For years, fans have eagerly anticipated a sequel, and in 2022, Sorvino and Kudrow fueled excitement by appearing together at the SAG Awards in outfits reminiscent of their iconic metallic minidresses. The actresses subsequently confirmed that a sequel was on the horizon.

Sorvino has hinted that the project is taking shape, stating, "There's nothing official yet, but unofficially, we're closer than ever to making something happen." Kudrow has also confirmed that Schiff is developing a script, calling it "thrilling."

The sequel is expected to delve into the lives of Romy and Michele in the years following their high school reunion, exploring themes of friendship, self-discovery, and the enduring power of reinvention. With the original cast and creative team returning, fans can expect a hilarious and heartwarming return to the beloved world of "Romy and Michele."
