Hysteria! Canceled by Peacock After One Season

The supernatural thriller series "Hysteria!" has been prematurely canceled by Peacock after airing only one season, Variety has exclusively reported.

Debuting in October 2024, "Hysteria!" faced challenges during production. Initially commissioned in August 2022, filming commenced in 2023 but was halted due to labor strikes involving writers and actors. Production resumed in late 2023.

Peacock's lack of viewership data makes it difficult to ascertain the show's popularity, as it did not appear on Nielsen's weekly Top 10 streaming charts. However, critical reception was positive, with Rotten Tomatoes awarding it a 91% approval rating.

The official series synopsis describes the plot:

"Amidst the 'Satanic Panic' of the late 1980s, the disappearance of a beloved varsity quarterback sparks a sinister tale. An outcast heavy metal band seizes an opportunity to exploit the town's fascination with the occult, styling themselves as a Satanic metal band. But their macabre act inadvertently triggers a series of chilling events, culminating in a leather-studded witch hunt that leads directly to them."

The cast featured Julie Bowen, Anna Camp, Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia, Kezii Curtis, and Nikki Hahn. Bruce Campbell, Garret Dillahunt, and other notable actors appeared in recurring roles.

Matthew Scott Kane and David Goodman served as showrunners and executive producers. John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein, Chris Bender, and Jake Weiner also assumed executive producer roles, with Bender and Weiner representing Good Fear Content. Jordan Vogt-Roberts directed the first and last episodes and served as an executive producer. UCP handled production responsibilities.
