Parker Posey on Her Southern Accent in 'The White Lotus' Season 3

Parker Posey explains the inspiration behind her exaggerated southern drawl as Violet Ratliff in "The White Lotus" Season 3.

Violet is the eccentric matriarch of a wealthy North Carolina family vacationing at the resort's Thailand location. Posey credits her own southern roots in Mississippi and "The Official Preppy Handbook" for her character's distinctive accent.

"I wanted to bring like a snotty affect," Posey reveals. "I've met some really wealthy people and southerners that are almost affected, so that's what I did."

Posey embraces the theatricality associated with southerners:

"It was so fun to play. It's the theatricality of Southerners. I was so happy to bring that Tennessee Williams kind of drama, 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.' It just fit the character."

Posey's encounter with Lisa from Blackpink:

Posey also discussed working with Lisa, who makes her acting debut in "The White Lotus" as a hotel staff member. Despite not being familiar with Lisa initially, Posey witnessed the singer's significant influence in Thailand.

Towards the end of filming, Posey and her co-star Natasha Rothwell met with butlers who were amazed by Lisa. "Lisa happened to be getting a massage," Posey says. "I texted her assistant and she stopped by and took a picture. She's huge in Thailand."
