Miles Teller to Star as Italian Cycling Hero Gino Bartali in Biopic "Bartali"

Miles Teller has secured the lead role in the upcoming biopic "Bartali," embodying the legendary Italian cyclist and World War II hero Gino Bartali. The film is helmed by Academy Award-winning documentary filmmakers E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, who previously captivated audiences with "Free Solo" and made their narrative debut with "Nyad." The screenplay comes from Karen Tenkhoff, renowned for "The Motorcycle Diaries," with production handled by Vasarhelyi, Chin, and their Little Monster Films banner.

North.five.six, formerly Mossbank, is presenting the project at the European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin, partnering with CAA Media Finance for North American distribution.

Gino Bartali, a celebrated athlete, achieved fame as Italy's most acclaimed cyclist prior to World War II, with victories in both the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France. During the war, he ingeniously utilized his fame to convey messages for the Italian Resistance while offering aid to Jews persecuted by the Nazis. In 2010, it was revealed that Bartali had concealed a Jewish family in his basement, ultimately saving their lives. Bartali passed away in 2020 after experiencing further triumphs in the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France post-war.

Teller, known for his performances in "Whiplash" and "Top Gun: Maverick," has an impressive slate of upcoming projects. These include "The Gorge" with Anya Taylor-Joy and Sigourney Weaver, Antoine Fuqua's Michael Jackson biopic "Michael," the romantic comedy "Eternity," and the animated feature "The Ark and the Aardvark."
