Marianne Faithfull Biopic in the Works with Freya Allan as the Lead
Finnish director Zaida Bergroth ("Tove") will helm the Marianne Faithfull biopic "Marianne," with "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" star Freya Allan portraying the iconic London pop star.
The project, which is currently in pre-production, follows Faithfull's journey from a beloved pop icon and Mick Jagger's muse to her fall from grace and subsequent rise. British actor and musician Jojo Macari ("Sex Education," "Those About to Die") will play Mick Jagger.
The film will depict Faithfull's rollercoaster life, from her early success in the swinging '60s to her battles with homelessness, addiction, and controversy. It will also highlight her phoenix-like resurgence as an artist.
"Marianne" is produced by Julia Taylor-Stanley of Artemis Films and Finnish producer Roosa Toivonen. Taylor-Stanley previously worked on an unproduced Marianne Faithfull biopic. The screenplay is co-written by Taylor-Stanley and Bergroth.
Bergroth is known for her biopic "Tove," which focused on Finnish visual artist and author Tove Jansson, creator of the Moomins.
Marianne Faithfull passed away in London on January 30, 2023, at the age of 78. She rose to fame with the 1964 single "As Tears Go By," co-written by Rolling Stones members Andrew Loog Oldham, Mick Jagger, and Keith Richards. Faithfull battled personal struggles in the '70s but made a triumphant return with her 1979 album "Broken English."
