Lin-Manuel Miranda Almost Played a Munchkin in 'Wicked'

After collaborating on "In the Heights," Lin-Manuel Miranda and director Jon M. Chu almost reunited for "Wicked."

On "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," Miranda revealed his desire to play a munchkin delivering a crucial line in the opening scene. "I was like, 'I really wanted to do that line, Jon,'" Miranda said.

However, Miranda wasn't cast, acknowledging that his presence would have been "distracting." He praised Kirsty Anne Shaw for her performance instead.

Chu confirmed Miranda's pursuit of the role, stating that he received "many calls" and "tweets." However, Chu believed Miranda's involvement would have been "too distracting."

"Wicked," starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, has earned 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.
