Lady Gaga Debuts "Abracadabra" During Grammys Commercial Break
Lady Gaga has unveiled a new single, "Abracadabra," during a commercial break at the 2023 Grammy Awards. The announcement marks the first time the song has been officially released, ahead of her upcoming album, "Mayhem."
Gaga teased the song and its music video during the Grammy ceremony, referring to its premiere as "The category is... dance or die." Following the televised debut, the track became available on YouTube and other platforms within minutes.
The song title, "Abracadabra," had been hinted at previously in the album announcement video for "Mayhem." The music video showcases a dance battle between Gaga's light and dark sides. Throughout the video, Gaga and her dancers perform in white, but the visuals occasionally shift to crimson, reflecting the lyrical references to a "lady in red."
Gaga collaborated with Parris Goebel and Bethany Vargas to co-direct the video, while Hardstyle's Peri Rosenzweig and Nick Royal handled the styling and costuming. The announcement highlights an upcycled white cape crafted from vintage wedding dresses.
Despite the commercial debut, Gaga also performed "California Dreamin'" with Bruno Mars during the live telecast, paying homage to Los Angeles in the wake of the wildfires.
"Mayhem," the singer's seventh studio album, is set for release on March 7th. The album features previously released singles "Disease" and "Die With a Smile," her collaboration with Mars.
In a statement, Gaga described the album as a process of confronting her fears and reassembling a shattered mirror.
