Interim Leadership at Film Independent After President's Passing

Following the passing of longtime president Josh Welsh on December 31, Film Independent has appointed interim leadership to guide the organization while a search commences for a permanent executive.

Brenda Robinson, previously the board vice chair, has been named acting president, while Roadside Attractions co-president and owner Eric d'Arbeloff will serve as acting board chair. The appointments were approved by the board and are effective immediately.

Robinson, a former entertainment attorney, has been involved with Film Independent for over a decade, starting as a member of the Arts Circle community before joining the board in 2020. D'Arbeloff, who has worked with the organization for over 20 years, will lead the search for a permanent president.

The interim leadership aims to provide stability and direction during the transition period. Robinson and d'Arbeloff plan to increase membership to over 10,000 within the next five years, with the ultimate goal of doubling it in the future. They also aim to expand FIND's national and international presence.

Once a new president is appointed, Robinson and d'Arbeloff will return to their previous board positions. Robinson, however, remains open to considering the permanent appointment in the future.

"Film Independent has always been about providing access to the industry for those without it," said d'Arbeloff. "We aim to continue growing the membership and celebrating diverse filmmakers."
