Pete Hegseth Confirmed as Defense Secretary Despite Controversy

Former Fox News host Pete Hegseth has been confirmed as Defense Secretary after a narrow vote in the U.S. Senate. Vice President J.D. Vance cast the tie-breaking vote, overcoming opposition from three Republican senators. Hegseth faces allegations of sexual assault and alcohol abuse, as well as concerns about his qualifications to lead the Pentagon.

Despite the controversy, Hegseth secured his appointment through a late-night vote. The confirmation marks only the second time in U.S. history that a Vice President has used their tie-breaking power to approve a Cabinet nominee.

Hegseth served as co-host of "Fox & Friends Weekend" and is a veteran of the National Guard with deployments in Afghanistan and Iraq. However, his appointment has drawn criticism from military professionals who question his fitness for the role.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer condemned Hegseth's nomination, labeling him "erratic" and "unfit." The confirmation, Schumer warned, would undermine the credibility of the Republican majority.
