CPH:DOX to Open with Tommy Gulliksen's Documentary 'Facing War'

Tommy Gulliksen's documentary "Facing War," which chronicles Jens Stoltenberg's final year as NATO Secretary General, has been selected as the opening film for the Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival (CPH:DOX), taking place March 19-30.

The film will compete for CPH:DOX's top prize, the DOX:AWARD, and will have its world premiere at the Royal Danish Academy of Music on March 19.

"Facing War" delves into Stoltenberg's tenure during a tumultuous year marked by the Ukraine crisis and fears of wider European conflict. The Norwegian diplomat's diplomatic skills are put to the test as he navigates tensions among allied nations and seeks to maintain unity.

Stoltenberg's strategic gestures and understanding of compromise prove crucial in negotiations with leaders like Recep Erdoğan and Viktor Orbán. The film highlights the importance of diplomacy and stable international alliances amidst growing geopolitical instability.

CPH:DOX Artistic Director Niklas Engstrøm emphasizes the film's relevance and insights into leadership and finesse in maintaining stability during times of crisis.

The film will also be screened in theaters across Denmark as part of the DOX:DANMARK project.

"Facing War" is directed by Tommy Gulliksen and produced by Dox Division in collaboration with NRK, SVT, and Think-Film Impact Production. It has received support from NFI, Oslo Film Fund, Viken Filmsenter, and other funding organizations.
