Wicked Director Jon M. Chu Triumphs at Critics' Choice Awards

At Friday's Critics' Choice Awards ceremony, "Wicked" director Jon M. Chu prevailed over several Oscar-nominated rivals, claiming the coveted Best Director accolade.

Despite expressing astonishment upon ascending the stage, Chu delivered a heartfelt speech, acknowledging: "I'm not nominated, I'm not nominated."

Chu emphasized his absence from the Oscar nominations, explaining, "I didn't write a speech... I wanted to share the stories we create... I feel privileged to tell the world stories alongside you all."

He extended his gratitude to his wife and children, recognizing their support for artists.

"This is for those who support artists. It's challenging, but America allows dreams to materialize. We can achieve feats beyond our parents' imaginations," Chu stated.

Despite "Wicked"'s 10 Oscar nominations, prognosticators were baffled by Chu's exclusion from the Best Director category. He triumphed at the Critics' Choice Awards, surpassing Oscar nominees Sean Baker, Brady Corbet, Jacques Audiard, and Coralie Fargeat. Other nominees included Denis Villeneuve, RaMell Ross, and Edward Berger.
