Documentary Festival CPH:DOX Unveils Competition Film Slate
CPH:DOX, the renowned documentary film festival, has revealed the lineup for its 2023 competition sections, featuring an impressive selection of 71 films. Of these, 56 are world premieres, 12 are international premieres, and three are European premieres. The festival will run from March 19-30.
Niklas Engstrøm, CPH:DOX's artistic director, emphasized the importance of the arts in today's challenging world: "The times we live in are marked by conflict, chaos, and cynicism, leaving little room for the visionary or the poetic. Against that backdrop, we are thrilled to present a competition program that not only reflects the world but also refracts its light like a prism."
Mads K. Mikkelsen, the festival's head of program, described the competition lineup as a testament to the power of documentary filmmaking: "It truly represents documentary as an art form made for the cinema. CPH:DOX celebrates documentaries and the remarkable individuals who create them. Programming this year's festival has been a journey rich with discoveries."
The six competition sections, each judged by international juries, are as follows:
* DOX:AWARD (€10,000): Honors films with artistic excellence, cultural relevance, and strong personal expression.
* NEW:VISION Award (€5,000): Celebrates boundary-pushing art films and experimental documentaries.
* NEXT:WAVE Award (€5,000): Highlights emerging filmmakers and their innovative visions.
* NORDIC:DOX Award (€5,000): Recognizes outstanding documentaries from the Nordic region.
* F:ACT Award (€5,000): Honors films that effectively combine documentary and investigative journalism.
* HUMAN:RIGHTS Award (€5,000): Focuses on documentaries that explore urgent human rights issues.
In addition, the Audience Award (€10,000) allows festival attendees to vote for their favorite film.
The full festival program is scheduled for release on February 26.
