Blknws: Terms & Conditions

Despite being pulled from Sundance Festival 2023 at the behest of Participant Media, "Blknws: Terms & Conditions" has found new backing from Rich Spirit and BN Media.

James Shani's Rich Spirit has acquired all rights to the film from Participant Media, aiming to secure a new distribution deal. Shani's company previously rescued the controversial Donald Trump biopic "The Apprentice" from Kinematics.

Participant Media, the now-defunct social impact studio, has not commented.

Director Kahlil Joseph and producer Onye Anyanwu expressed gratitude for Participant's decision to relinquish ownership, allowing the film to reach audiences.

"Blknws: Terms & Conditions" was originally selected for Sundance's Next program but removed after Participant Media discovered Joseph submitted a revised cut without their knowledge.

A24 had initially co-financed the film but quietly withdrew last August. After Participant pulled the film, Sundance expressed disappointment.

Starring Shaunette Renée Wilson, the film explores the intersection of art, journalism, entrepreneurship, and cultural critique.
