BBC Studios Partners with Banijay Asia for Local Format Adaptations in India
BBC Studios has discontinued its local production operations in India, opting for an exclusive multi-year partnership with Banijay Asia. This partnership grants Banijay Asia exclusive rights to BBC Studios' vast catalog of unscripted and scripted formats for adaptation within the Indian market.
Banijay Asia, a joint venture between Banijay Entertainment and Deepak Dhar, brings expertise in local adaptation, having successfully introduced international formats such as "Masterchef," "Big Brother," and "Temptation Island" to Indian audiences. The company will leverage its knowledge to adapt BBC Studios' globally acclaimed formats, including "The 1% Club," "Dancing with the Stars," and "Great Bake Off," for Indian broadcasters and streaming platforms.
BBC Studios' departure from local production marks a shift in strategy, as the company previously played a prominent role with adaptations like "Criminal Justice" and "The Office." However, this partnership with Banijay Asia allows BBC Studios to maintain its presence in the Indian market while capitalizing on Banijay's local expertise.
