Austrian-German Production Company Schubert Advances Slate of Films by Visionary Filmmakers
Vienna and Berlin, Germany - Schubert, the esteemed production company established in 2020 by Johannes Schubert, continues its forward momentum with an impressive lineup of films crafted by renowned auteur filmmakers.
"Rose": A Historical Drama Unfolding a Tale of Courage
Schubert's latest cinematic endeavor, "Rose," marks the third feature film by Austrian writer-director Markus Schleinzer. Starring the acclaimed Sandra Hüller, this historical drama portrays a captivating narrative set in a 17th-century village ravaged by the Thirty Years' War. The titular character, a woman driven by adversity, valiantly disguises herself as a man to embark on a new chapter in a Protestant community. Currently in advanced post-production and globally represented by The Match Factory, "Rose" is poised for a release later this year.
"Keep Quiet": Exposing the Shadows of Oppression
Franz Böhm, the BAFTA-winning director of the acclaimed short film "Rock, Paper, Scissors," joins forces with co-director Suli Kurban in their upcoming feature debut, "Keep Quiet." This English-language political thriller draws inspiration from the alleged mistreatment of Uyghur people in internment camps in Western China. Two journalists embark on a treacherous journey to shed light on this pressing issue, highlighting the pursuit of truth and resilience in the face of adversity. Production is slated to commence later this year.
"Toxic": Navigating the Perils of Modern Labor
Schubert continues its collaboration with Austrian filmmaker Jessica Hausner, following their successful partnership on "Club Zero." Their upcoming film, "Toxic," marks Hausner's third English-language endeavor. Supported by the Austrian Film Institute and the Vienna Film Fund, "Toxic" explores the complexities of the modern workplace and its potential to erode individual well-being within a turbo-capitalist system. Principal photography is scheduled for 2026.
Partnerships and Growth: A Collaborative Approach
Beyond its own productions, Schubert actively participates as a minority partner in prominent European co-productions. One such project is "Our Girls," a compelling family drama helmed by Academy Award-winning Dutch filmmaker Mike van Diem. This collaboration between the Netherlands, Austria, and Belgium showcases the collaborative spirit that drives Schubert's approach to filmmaking.
A Dynamic Team Committed to Excellence
Schubert attributes its success to its nimble and dedicated team based in Austria and Germany. By fostering long-term relationships with filmmakers, fellow producers, and distribution partners, the company aims to cultivate sustainable partnerships that elevate the production and distribution of exceptional cinematic experiences.
"We will go where the filmmakers take us," says Schubert, emphasizing the company's director-led philosophy. "Our mission is to support and empower visionary storytellers, bringing their unique perspectives to the screen."
