Angela Bassett on Oscar Loss: "I Thought I Deserved" Award

Angela Bassett recently shared her thoughts on losing the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her portrayal of Queen Ramonda in "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever."

In an interview with Town & Country magazine, Bassett expressed her belief that she "deserved" the award, stating, "I found it interesting that I wouldn't be allowed to be disappointed at an outcome where I thought I was deserving."

Despite her disappointment, Bassett remained composed during the awards ceremony and has since defended her reaction, emphasizing the importance of grace and resilience. She acknowledged that "disappointment is human," but stressed that individuals should strive to handle setbacks with dignity.

Prior to "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," Bassett had only received one other Oscar nomination for her role as Tina Turner in "What's Love Got to Do With It" (1994). She ultimately lost that year to Holly Hunter.

In 2024, Bassett was awarded an Honorary Oscar in recognition of her significant contributions to the film industry.
