Alex Kahuam Launches Production Company Kahuam Films
Alex Kahuam, director of the one-take thriller "Failure!", has established a new Los Angeles-based production company, Kahuam Films.
Kahuam, who premiered "Failure!" at the Cannes Film Market's Fantastic Pavilion Gala Screenings, is currently completing his fifth feature film, the psychological horror pic "The Remedy." Starring Timothy Granaderos ("13 Reasons Why"), "The Remedy" will be Kahuam Films' inaugural title.
Kahuam Films will focus on genre films, with Kahuam combining elements of European cinema, Mexican magical realism, and the commercial appeal of U.S. films.
"The Remedy," described as a psychological supernatural horror film, features a cast that includes London Thor ("Gen V"), Doug Jones ("The Shape of Water"), Chris Mulkey ("Whiplash"), and Jenny O’Hara ("Devil"). It follows a troubled young man's desperate attempt to save his terminally ill mother, which unleashes a supernatural entity.
Previously, Kahuam produced his films through his Mexico City company Promotora NAE (NAE films). With growing partnerships in the U.S., the move to establish Kahuam Films allows for expansion.
Kahuam cites easier access to talent and navigation of Hollywood industry regulations as additional benefits of his company's California base.
Looking to diversify his filmmaking, Kahuam is developing more accessible films, such as "The Remedy," which has 218 scenes. He currently has five projects in development, including a high-concept horror film that may be shot in Europe.
